Dr. Thomas Lotus
Dr. Thomas J. Lotus is a 2003 graduate of National University of Health Sciences (NUHS), where he excelled in the areas of adjustive technique, rehabilitation and soft tissue. Upon graduation, he was selected to teach electives at the school addressing Advances in Functional Rehabilitation. Since that time, Dr. Lotus has been part-time faculty for the Lincoln School of Post-Professional Education at NUHS. He continues to teach courses around the country & internationally covering Rehabilitation, Biomechanics and Chronic Pain. Dr. Lotus is also an instructor for the Motion Palpation Institute (MPI) (http://www.motionpalpation.org) in which he teaches evidence- based treatment techniques, biomechanics, rehabilitation and gait mechanics. Dr. Lotus is a firm believer in the fact that “Education is for Time and Eternity” and with this he continues to travel the country and world to learn and teach with his mentors.
Dr. Lotus is a board certified Chiropractic Orthopedist (DACO) (www.dcorthoacademy.com) in which he holds Fellowship status. Dr. Lotus is also a candidate for diplomate status within the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board (Levels I,II,III) (www.clinicalrehabspecialists.com) and carries a Certificate in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Tempomandibular Dysfunction. McKenzie Therapy is an advanced diagnostic & treatment technique that addresses joint and muscle pathology by using mechanical diagnosis. Treatments are mechanical in nature using specific movements to reduce pain and aid healing throughout joints & tissues, providing solutions to impairments both acute and chronic.
Unique to his professional peers, Dr. Lotus did a residency rotation at Motol Hospital, Czech Republic under Drs. Pavel Kolar and Karel Lewit in 2004. The Czech School of Medicine has been directed and led by some of the most coruscating grandfathers of Manual Medicine. Dr. Kolar has advanced the research of ‘Infant Reflex Locomotion’, (now Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization-DNS) a stabilization technique based on developmental kinesiology. As a student of Dr. Kolar, Dr. Lotus has been able to utilize and incorporate these advanced techniques into his practice. This non-invasive treatment method allows for rapid healing of some of the most difficult biomechanical deficits, chronic and repetitive injuries. Since 2004, Dr. Lotus has continued to travel the country to learn from Dr. Kolar and the Prague School of Medicine.
Dr. Lotus has an extensive athlete base with his specialized approach to the biomechanics and kinesiology of sport. Being certified in Gait Analysis by some of the leading authorities in the field, Dr. Lotus has treated endurance athletes of all calibers including Professional Athletes, Nationally Ranked Runners, Semi-Professional Tri-athletes, Collegiate Athletes and “Weekend Warriors”. Dr. Lotus continues to be a consultant for running stores throughout the region.
With the understanding of the daily training impact an athlete encounters, Dr. Lotus is able to examine a competitor and incorporate a specific rehabilitation protocol to improve his or her performance. With this goal-oriented approach to sports, Dr. Lotus also serves as a consultant for some of Chicago’s cutting edge gyms & Personal Trainers.
Dr. Lotus incorporates the Bio-Psycho-Social (BPS) aspect of treatment with each of his patients. Using Mechanical Diagnosis, focused functional rehabilitation and neuromuscular re-patterning (DNS), he aspires to achieve the best outcomes for each patient.
