Dr. Kristine Tohtz and Dr. Thomas Lotus met while at National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL. The two realized that a joint practice would better serve their patients individual needs. Only the best support staff, physicians and manual therapists have been brought into the clinic to help all of our patients recover from their injuries or illnesses in the most efficacious possible manner.
DR. KRISTINE TOHTZ
Dr. Kristine Tohtz discovered chiropractic and holistic medicine at a young age. Having seen the wonders that chiropractic and acupuncture had on her family, she decided to dedicate her life to helping others with their ailments in a holistic manner incorporating these two healing arts into one practice.
Dr. Tohtz graduated magna cum laude from the National University of Health Sciences in April 2001. While attending chiropractic school, she also began working toward a diplomate in Acupuncture and in August 2009 received her Diplomate in Acupuncture from the American Chiropractic Associations’s Council on Chiropractic Acupuncture. In April 2009, Dr. Tohtz completed a certification in Pregnancy and Pediatric care through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (icpa4kids.com). She is also a certified post partum doula and the Illinois state representative for Maternity Wise (maternitywise.com). As a Certified Yoga Instructor through the Temple of Kriya Yoga, Dr. Tohtz uses the combination of all of these healing arts in a coupled manner for rehabilitation, treatment and general stress management. So that she may offer the most cutting edge treatment options for her patients, Dr. Tohtz attends numerous continuing education courses in rehabilitation, yoga, nutritional therapies, acupuncture, Chinese medicine and other forms of alternative medicine such as hypnotherapy.
Dr. Tohtz served as an instructor in the department of Chiropractic Practice and as a staff clinician at the National University of Health Sciences for 4 years after she graduated. She continues to teach Pregnancy and Pediatric care as well as Acupuncture through the University’s Post Graduate Education Department. A consummate teacher to both her patients and her colleagues, Dr Tohtz extends her teaching to others through Back Safety Training Programs, corporate yoga, stress management and proper ergonomics for numerous industries such as Commonwealth Edison, A. Epstein, Network of Women Entrepreneurs, Columbia College and AA-Razorfish to name a few.
DR. THOMAS LOTUS
Dr. Thomas J. Lotus is a 2003 graduate of National University of Health Sciences (NUHS), where he excelled in the areas of adjustive technique, rehabilitation and soft tissue. Upon graduation, he was selected to teach electives at the school addressing Advances in Functional Rehabilitation. Since that time, Dr. Lotus has been part-time faculty for the Lincoln School of Post-Professional Education at NUHS. He continues to teach courses around the country & internationally covering Rehabilitation, Biomechanics and Chronic Pain. Dr. Lotus is also an instructor for the Motion Palpation Institute (MPI)
(http://www.motionpalpation.org) in which he teaches evidence- based treatment techniques, biomechanics, rehabilitation and gait mechanics. Dr. Lotus is a firm believer in the fact that “Education is for Time and Eternity” and with this he continues to travel the country and world to learn and teach with his mentors.
Dr. Lotus is a board certified Chiropractic Orthopedist (DACO) (www.dcorthoacademy.com) in which he holds Fellowship status. Dr. Lotus is also a candidate for diplomate status within the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board (Levels I,II,III) (www.clinicalrehabspecialists.com) and carries a Certificate in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Tempomandibular Dysfunction. Dr. Lotus is 1 of 40 Chiropractors in the world that is fully Credentialed in McKenzie Therapy: Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy (http://www.mckenziemdt.org). McKenzie Therapy is an advanced diagnostic & treatment technique that addresses joint and muscle pathology by using mechanical diagnosis. Treatments are mechanical in nature using specific movements to reduce pain and aid healing throughout joints & tissues, providing solutions to impairments both acute and chronic.
Unique to his professional peers, Dr. Lotus did a residency rotation at Motol Hospital, Czech Republic under Drs. Pavel Kolar and Karel Lewit in 2004. The Czech School of Medicine has been directed and led by some of the most coruscating grandfathers of Manual Medicine. Dr. Kolar has advanced the research of ‘Infant Reflex Locomotion’, (now Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization-DNS) a stabilization technique based on developmental kinesiology. As a student of Dr. Kolar, Dr. Lotus has been able to utilize and incorporate these advanced techniques into his practice. This non-invasive treatment method allows for rapid healing of some of the most difficult biomechanical deficits, chronic and repetitive injuries. Since 2004, Dr. Lotus has continued to travel the country to learn from Dr. Kolar and the Prague School of Medicine.
Dr. Lotus has an extensive athlete base with his specialized approach to the biomechanics and kinesiology of sport. Being certified in Gait Analysis by some of the leading authorities in the field, Dr. Lotus has treated endurance athletes of all calibers including Professional Athletes, Nationally Ranked Runners, Semi-Professional Tri-athletes, Collegiate Athletes and “Weekend Warriors”. Dr. Lotus continues to be a consultant for running stores throughout the region.
With the understanding of the daily training impact an athlete encounters, Dr. Lotus is able to examine a competitor and incorporate a specific rehabilitation protocol to improve his or her performance. With this goal-oriented approach to sports, Dr. Lotus also serves as a consultant for some of Chicago’s cutting edge gyms & Personal Trainers.
Dr. Lotus incorporates the Bio-Psycho-Social (BPS) aspect of treatment with each of his patients. Using Mechanical Diagnosis, focused functional rehabilitation and neuromuscular re-patterning (DNS), he aspires to achieve the best outcomes for each patient.
DR. GINA M. SIRCHIO
Dr. Sirchio is a 2005 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the National University of Health Sciences. She is the owner of the LG Institute of Health, an alternative health medical center located in Chicago’s Fulton River District. Dr. Sirchio has had a lifelong interest in fitness and health participating in many sports throughout her childhood, teen years and now as an adult. Dr. Sirchio has extensive experience addressing chronic disease, inflammatory and debilitating disorders. The doctor’s background as a Certified Clinical Nutritionist and current candidate for her Diplomate for the American Board of Chiropractic Internists allows her to use extensive laboratory testing and evaluation. The ultimate goal is to always determine the cause to allow for the most accurate treatment. Patients can expect a thorough evaluation of their symptoms, past health history, personal health goals and lastly; education about their condition. It is always the goal of Dr. Sirchio to work alongside her patients to best prepare them for in-office care as well as self ‘home’ care.
The doctor has studied hundreds of post-graduate hours to attain the experience to use nutrition to address many conditions, including but not limited to; chronic disease, auto-immune diseases, fibromyalgia, weight management, fatigue, pre-natal and post-natal needs, infertility, food allergies, irritable bowel syndromes and support for cancer therapies. Nutritional treatments are always lifestyle modifications and may include prescribed supplement treatment, dietary changes, specific fitness goals, body fat measurements and/or laboratory testing. Laboratory testing offered by Dr. Sirchio includes bloodwork, salivary, stool, hair and urine analysis. Dr. Sirchio treats many specialty groups including the athlete who strives for increased endurance, faster recovery time and improved body composition, children struggling with allergies, asthma and behavior disorders and new mothers pre-natal through post-partum and breastfeeding.
Dr. Sirchio is vibrantly passionate about food, nutrition and how it can improve one’s life, health and fitness goals. She is an avid cook and believes better nutrition is the answer to much of what we all strive for; feeling better, performing at our best and enjoying our health.
DR. DANNY MCLANE
Dr McLane states as his guiding philosophy about natural health care “I know that there exists greatness in all of humankind that is unleashed when suffering is at a minimum. That is the driving force that compels me to seek out, in any form or fashion, the means to improve the human condition, to increase the quality of life and empower people to achieve their maximum potential”
Dr. Danny McLane graduated in October 2011 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He excelled in the study of Gonstead, Diversified, Thompson, Toggle-Recoil, Activator, Blair Upper Cervical, and Applied Kinesiology adjusting techniques. While at Palmer, he sought out additional training from the Activator Method Seminars, as well as numerous acupuncture courses such as battle field acupuncture, and aesthetic acupuncture at the National University of Health Sciences.
Before going to chiropractic school Dr. McLane started his career in natural health care as a massage therapist, graduating Summa Cum Laude from LifeStyles Learning Center in July 2003. Following his graduation, Dr. McLane began teaching the advanced hands on portion of the curriculum from his alma mater and developed new materials including Touch For Health Kinesiology. Concurrently with his teaching role at LifeStyles and running his own private massage therapy practice, he also attended National-Louis University. In 2007 Dr. McLane received a B.A. in Applied Behavioral Science again graduating at the top of his class. Dr. McLane is also a certified hypnotherapist with the National Guild of Hypnotists, as well as a Master Level Certified Neuro-Linguistic Programmer with the National Federation of Neuro-Linguistic Programmers.
Dr. McLane is currently working to complete his post graduate diplomate certifications in Acupuncture and Applied Kinesiology. He also served as a member at large with the Touch For Health Kinesiology Board of Directors. Through his efforts and dedication he accrued more than 350 hours of Applied Kinesiology based health systems. He is also certified to offer continuing education credits with the TFHKA as well as the Integrated Health Institute in many massage therapy and Applied Kinesiology based systems.
Dr. McLane is available for consultation for groups and individuals for a natural health care perspective as well as options for care for a wide range of conditions.
Susan Kinney has been a practicing massage and manual therapy in the Chicagoland area for the past ten years. Graduating from the Chicago School of Massage Therapy in 2001, and a member of ABMP (Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals), Susan strongly believes that therapeutic massage is extremely beneficial in enhancing sport performance, injury recovery, and injury prevention. Ben Benjamin’s Orthopedic Massage, Aaron Mattes’ Active Isolated Stretching, Prenatal/Postnatal, and Thomas Myers’ Anatomy Trains are just a few courses in Susan’s educational background that has expanded her knowledge within the field of bodywork. Susan offers a genuine approach to each individuals needs and believes that movement in life should be pain free.
Rachel Parr is a 2001 graduate from the Chicago School of Massage Therapy and a 2009 graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology. Being a life time learner and always striving to learn more about the human body, its functions and how to better help her clients, Rachel is currently studying to be a both a yoga teacher through Core Power Yoga and a Corrective Exercise Specialist under the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Her continuing education consists of such classes as Precision Neuromuscular Therapy, Active Release Technique, Myofascial training and exercise science.
Rachel believes manual massage therapy to be an integral part of a healthy body; through soft tissue work and corrective exercises the body functions better. She has worked with a wide range of people from professional athletes to people with chronic pain, pregnancy and post natal as well as people who just need to reduce their stress levels.
Victoria believes manual massage therapy is essential for maintaining muscle/tissue mobility, circulation and to decrease tension/adhesions from a variety of specific injuries, trauma and/or chronic pain symptoms. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist in Illinois and obtained her Certificate in the Massage Therapy Program at National University of Heath Sciences in 2004. Victoria has been actively practicing massage therapy since 2004 and joined the Serenity Health & Wellness team in 2007. Additional Certifications include Reiki Level 1 and 2, Pre/Postnatal Massage and Craniosacral Therapy.
Techniques Victoria practices at Serenity Heath & Wellness are hands on palpation including myofascial release techniques such as, but not limited to: deep trigger point therapy, cross fiber friction, pincer compression, stripping and petrissage all applied according to the physician monitored care and progress plan.
